Questions
- What is a good difficulty for an indie app?
- Under 40 you can reach the first page with a good subtitle and a few hundred ratings. 41–65 needs a real listing and time. Above 65 the first page is owned by apps with hundreds of thousands of ratings; go for a longer phrase instead.
- Where does popularity come from?
- From the Apple Ads keyword suggestions endpoint, one phrase per call, so nothing is averaged away. It is the same number Apple shows advertisers.
- How is difficulty calculated?
- From the rating counts of the ten apps on the first page, on a logarithmic scale, because a page holding an app with 900,000 ratings is a different proposition from one with a few hundred.
- Can I check any keyword?
- Yes, in any of 22 storefronts. Fresh readings are limited to 30 a day per visitor; anything read before is instant and unlimited.
- How do I find every phrase a competitor ranks for?
- That is the product: paste a competitor and get its whole table, with the phrases in its hidden keyword field marked. Three runs a month free.
