How it works

01

Pick a store, a chart and a category

22 storefronts, free, paid or grossing, all apps or one of 25 categories.

02

Read 100 rows with movement

Yesterday's snapshot sits beside today's, so every row shows how far it moved, and the side lists the biggest climbers, fallers and drop-outs.

03

Open any app

Every row links to the app's page: rating, ratings by country, chart positions everywhere, screenshots, what's new, visibility score.

100 rows, not 25

Apple's classic feed still goes to 100. We read all of it, per country, per chart, per category.

Movement, not just rank

Yesterday's snapshot sits beside today's, so every row shows its movement and the aside lists the biggest climbers and fallers.

Every app links to its page

Rating, ratings by country, chart positions everywhere, screenshots, what's new, and the keywords anyone has read for it.

App Store top charts by country, in practice

The App Store app shows you the top charts for your own country and category, 25 at a time. Apple's classic RSS feed still returns 100, for every storefront, and that is what aso.best snapshots once a day for 22 storefronts, three collections and every category for the largest stores. A chart page is a plain list you can read in ten seconds: rank, icon, name, developer, rating, and how far the app moved since yesterday.

Movement is the part that a screenshot of the store cannot give you. Because yesterday's snapshot is kept, every row shows its change, and the side of the page lists the apps that climbed most, fell most and dropped out of the 100 altogether. Across all charts and stores, the share of rows that moved ten places or more is also the basis of the algorithm-changes reading, so a day when every chart shakes is visible as one number.

Charts are also the front door to the app pages. Every row links to a page with the app's rating, its ratings in each of the 22 storefronts, its position in every chart we hold today, screenshots, what's new, the keywords anyone has read for it, the apps that rank beside it, and a visibility score with a public audit. No downloads or revenue: Apple does not publish them and we do not estimate.

Questions

How often are charts updated?
Once a day at 06:10 UTC for every storefront, and on demand the first time somebody opens a chart that day.
Are downloads shown?
No. Apple does not publish them and we do not estimate. Rank, rating and movement are real; downloads would be a guess.
Which categories?
All apps plus 25 categories, from Games and Business to Weather, for the seven largest storefronts; all-apps charts for the other fifteen.
